Roque Alvarado, 43, of Sacramento, was traveling about 60 mph northbound on I-5 at 12:07 a.m. Aug. 9 when the 2007 Kenwood Tractor he was driving drifted into the center divide about 2.5 miles south of the Sperry Avenue exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Alvarado, who was hauling two trailers of tomatoes, overcorrected for the drift, causing the vehicle to overturn and jackknife across both lanes, according to CHP officers Eric Parsons and J.B. Peregoy.
The tomatoes and upset trailers had to be removed from the highway before the lanes could be reopened, according to Parsons.
Northbound traffic was diverted onto Highway 33 via the Fink Road exit near Crows Landing while northbound lanes were shut down, CHP Officer Peregoy said.
Though Alvarado had minor injuries, he did not need to be taken to a hospital, Parsons said.
