Ten-year-olds Emma Rethans and Justin Torrison, both students in Star Pedron’s class, were among the regional winners in the state competition for third to eighth grades. Each received a plaque, a certificate and a book as prizes.
Emma wrote about “Lenny the Lucky Goat,” while Justin submitted a story called “The Adventures in Gardening.”
Each participating school was permitted to send five stories from each grade level. Nine Stanislaus County students received regional awards. Six stories were selected as statewide winners.
Contest entrants sent in original works, either fact or fiction, related to California agriculture.
The California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom aims to help teachers and students gain an understanding of agriculture.
