Patterson Joint Unified School District recognized Megan Bernard and Nick De Pauw as employees of the month at its June 4 board meeting, awarding each a gift certificate and keychain.

Bernard, a teacher at Northmead Elementary School, is an inspiration to everyone she interacts with, according to the school’s principal, Joe Silveira, who nominated her.

“She has a unique blend of bubbly positivism and focused determination that has made her stand out to her peers and myself,” Silveira said.

He described Bernard as a natural leader with a wealth of knowledge she uses to lead projects and staff developments. She was invaluable to him, he said, in his efforts to find ways to help students who were lagging in their studies and to develop a protocol for productive meetings with teachers.

Superintendent Phil Alfano spoke highly of DePauw, a computer systems analyst. DePauw was nominated by the district’s nursing staff for completing a medical billing system tool that helps school health workers bill the Local Education Agency, generating funds more rapidly and efficiently.

“He’s a pleasure to work with,” Alfano said. “You can call on him for anything — and people do.”
