Councilwoman Annette Smith took the first step toward making another run for City Council by taking out paperwork from City Hall last week, though she said this week she was still deciding whether to seek a third term.

Carlos Gustavo Fierros also took out papers during the week.

They join six other prospective candidates, including Mayor Luis Molina and Councilman Dominic Farinha, both of whom filled out paperwork to seek re-election shortly after it became available July 16.

Two residents who ran for City Council in 2010, Sheree Lustgarten and Fierros, have indicated interest in seeking council posts, as have newcomers Antonio Camacho, Mia Brudnicki and Dennis McCord.

As of Tuesday, Aug. 7, only Molina, Farinha and McCord had returned the necessary forms to be considered candidates on the Nov. 6 ballot, and Molina is the only candidate so far seeking the mayoral post.

Prospective candidates have until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, to file to run, unless at least one incumbent does not apply for re-election. In that case, all nonincumbent candidates have until the end of business Wednesday, Aug. 15.

The one incumbent left who has not done so is Smith.
