UPDATE: Creekside wrestling completes perfect dual-meet season

The Creekside Middle School wrestling team crossed another item off its ever-evolving list of goals Feb. 25 with a 63-21 victory over host Delhi Middle School in the final dual meet of the season.

The win clinched the Creekside program's first perfect dual-meet campaign. The Panthers have a six-match winning streak dating back to Feb. 5 with a 66-36 win against Waterford Middle School.

Chase Mirelez (76 pounds), Oscar Rosas (95), Dhalynn Smith (135), Cameron Fredrickson (142), Aurora Vela (153) and Kylie Nicholson (168) picked up pins for the visitors. Carson Stonebarger (83), Ewan Schut (103) and Noah Mirelez (108) each earned a win by decision for Creekside.

At the junior varsity level, Brian McGee (76) and Hakili Smith (135) each claimed a pin for the Panthers, while Chase Mirelez (83) and Anthony Barrera (89) earned a technical fall. Evan Coslow (95) recorded a major decision.

Next up is the league championship tournament, which takes place Saturday, March 8 in Livingston.

Salida Shootout

As triumphant as the Creekside wrestling program has been this season it continues to get harder and harder for the Panthers to continue to raise the bar of success.

Yet, on Saturday, March 1 at the Salida Shootout held at Salida Middle School, Creekside set a new standard once again, crowning five champions.

Leading the Panthers as tournament titlists were seventh-grader Ivan Pineda (95 pounds), seventh-grader Noah Mirelez (108), seventh-grader Francisco Duran (128), eighth-grader Dhalynn Smith (135) and eighth-grader Aurora Vela (153).

Panther wrestlers who earned second-place medals were fifth-grader Chase Mirelez (76), fourth-grader Anthony Barrera (89), fifth-grader Ewan Schut (103), seventh-grader Kevin Hernandez (122), seventh-grader Nate Garcia (135), eighth-grader Austin Lucero and eighth-grader David Valverde (heavyweight).

Also medaling and receiving third-place honors were sixth-grader Adrian Barrera (89), seventh-grader Oscar Rosas (95), eighth-grader Angel Halcon (122) and eight-grader Brian Lopez (128).

In addition, Creekside, who competed in the Sac-Joaquin Section tournament Sunday, March 2, in Oakdale, will send four grapplers to the State Championship. That includes Noah Mirelez, who won the section title in the 105-pound weight class.

Also advancing and representing the Panthers is Michael Miller, who posted a second-place finish at 100 pounds.

Creekside will also send Oscar Rosas (86) and Chase Mirelez (70), who each placed fourth in the at SJS tournament.
