The Ceres Raptors proved too much for the Redskins, taking a 26-0 victory in the first round of the National Youth Football League playoffs at Patterson Community Stadium.
“Overall, I’m proud of our team for finishing the game with our heads held high,” Patterson offensive coordinator Edgar Gallegos said. “For having a very young squad, I’m proud of our accomplishments, how we grew and bonded together and how we learned to play as a team.”
Patterson running back Alexis Arevalo garnered praise from his coach.
“Alexis had three big runs to the outside that could have set up touchdowns,” Gallegos said. “But we really just beat ourselves. We made our adjustments, but (Ceres) wanted it more.”
Gallegos said the score didn’t reflect how much effort his team gave.
“As we told the team all year long, winning is great, but it’s not just about that,” Gallegos said. “If our athletes go on to play football at Patterson High and they can succeed both on and off the field, that’s a win.”
