School trustees presented certificates and gift cards to several local students during the Patterson Joint Unified School District board’s Feb. 21 meeting, as part of the District Writing Recognition Program.

First prize on the elementary level went to Melissa Cabrera, second to Rebecca Magana and third to Jordon Bueno. All three are in fifth grade at Las Palmas Elementary School.

Rowan Benson, a Creekside Middle School seventh-grader, earned first place on secondary level. Edward Martinez and Annya Alonzo, both sixth-graders from Walnut Grove School, took second and third place, respectively.

All entries will be submitted to the Apricot Fiesta Prose and Poetry Contest.
