EDITOR,

We both would like to strongly encourage all area voters to vote yes on Measure T in the June 5 primary election.

Measure T is to renew and extend for another five years one-eighth of a penny that is in our current sales tax. That amount is firmly dedicated to support our county library system and has been a part of our sales tax in the county since 1995.

As that small amount of sales tax now provides 87 percent of the monies needed to keep all of our 12 branches and the main Modesto library open, without T getting the two-thirds majority vote needed to pass, the system would have to be drastically cut back somehow.

Then the chances are very high that most of the 12 branches, including Patterson and Newman, etc., would have to be closed.

Please, help save the Stanislaus County library system, and especially our Patterson public library branch, and do so by voting yes on Measure T in June.

Peter and Vicki La Torre, Patterson
