Tyler Bettencourt fired a complete-game, five-hit victory atop the mound, and teammate Keith Yamamoto tallied three hits and drove in a run as Patterson knocked off Waterford, 4-1, at Downey High in Modesto.
Bettencourt struck out three batters as he picked up the win for the Jays (3-1) against the North division’s fifth-place Diablos (2-2) in the Mexican-American Baseball League. This is the Jays second season as a team.
Patterson, which had three players drive in runs, got seven hits in all. A.J. Marroquin went 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Rafa Arroyo went 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI in the win.
Zach Wheeland had a double and scored a run for the Jays.
The Jays play again at 10 a.m. May 20 against North Division rival Salida Mariners (3-1) at Patterson High.
