PHS seniors go on to college with awards

Patterson High School’s graduating seniors received scholarships and grants in a May 22 award ceremony to help them as they continue academic careers.

One of the highlights of senior awards night was when local resident George Klopping presented the Northern California Scholarship Federation award to Stephanie Cantu for $8,000 a year, amounting to $32,000 for all four years of college. Cantu, one of the school’s 14 valedictorians, also received the Dale Lackey Scholar Athlete Scholarship for $600 and the Arthur and Corrine Shields Memorial Scholarship for $500.

Other students who received financial packages from four-year universities included Christopher Teran, who will attend Yale University and received $58,050; Frankie Sanchez, Luther College, $32,340; Jazmin Jauregui, UC Santa Cruz, $26,023; Zachary Tanner, San Jose State, $17,120; Garrett Funston, Oregon State, $11,043; Andrea Villarreal, UC Davis, $23,051; Theresa Bays, Linfield College, $17,300; and Kendrick Trotter, Humboldt State University, $17,070.

Class of 2012 valedictorians were Hailey Alldredge, Khalid Aziz, Adan Cortez, Kristen Debler, Samantha De La Rosa, Danielle Hansen, Sonia Jimenez, Brian Lemmon, Elsa Miranda, Denise Stobb, Laura Thompson, Cantu, Teran and Bays.
