A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept 5, for Gene E. Carter of Patterson, who died Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
Mr. Carter, 88, was a native of Fort Smith, Ark., and was a resident of Patterson for 65 years. He was a cheese maker for 39 years working for Golden State Creamery in Patterson and Laprino in Newman. He also worked for Evans Funeral Chapel and Hillview Funeral Chapel, McAuley Ford in Patterson as a driver for many years and drove for the Patterson Ambulance for many years. Mr. Carter served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the Marines during the Korean War. He was past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and past Post Commander of the American Legion three times. He was a member of P.F.S.A and Sacred Heart Church of Patterson.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norberta Carter of Patterson; daughters, Delany Carter of Livermore and Dixie Davis of Patterson; one grandchild and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Pedersen.
A visitation will be observed from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Hillview Funeral Chapel, 450 W. Las Palmas Ave., in Patterson. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 5, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 529 I St., Patterson. Burial will be at Patterson District Cemetery, 10800 Highway 33, Patterson.
