I was extremely concerned when I read about the two big — and very partisan — political parties getting involved in our local election in the Irrigator article “Endorsements rack up for candidates” (Page 2, Sept. 20).
There is no place for national parties in our town politics, elections or operation of our city. Period. And whatever involvement they have will be to our detriment.
I propose that future candidates for mayor and City Council agree not to seek or accept endorsements from national parties.
And once the elections are over, I hope our elected mayor and council would consider a policy addressing this very serious threat.
Anybody really believe that we need any of that ugly Washington political influence in Patterson? Let’s stop this now and forever.
