Patterson High and Ceres High each claimed a varsity cross-country victory Oct. 10 at T.W. Patterson Sports Park.

The Patterson Tigers won the boys varsity race, beating the Bulldogs 19-38, but lost the girls varsity race, outrun by Ceres for a 26-31 defeat.

Nathan Stanton finished first in the 3.1-mile boys race in 17 minutes, 2 seconds as his team (4-1 WAC) took five of the top six places. Stanton is undefeated on the Western Athletic Conference dual meet circuit this season, with two meets remaining.

Close behind for Patterson were Antonio Venegas (18:30) in third, Roberto Sanchez (18:48) in fourth, Ben Vega (19:18) in fifth and Julius Flores (19:23) in sixth.

Teammates Dylan Christiansen (19:50, 10th) and Jose Jaramillo (20:06, 11th) rounded out Patterson’s fastest finishers.

Ceres’ girls team earned three of the top four spots in the 3.1-mile race while besting Patterson (2-3).

Lupe Ventura paced the Tigers, claiming a first-place finish with a time of 20:50.

Her teammate Gracie Bradley was fifth (24:16), followed seconds later by Jenevy Esqueda in sixth (24:18). Stephany Esqueda placed seventh (24:46) and Carina Sotelo finished 12th (27:19), rounding out the team’s top times.

Patterson’s junior varsity boys team also had a dual meet triumph over Ceres.

The JV Tigers (5-0) had six of the top seven finishers in the two-mile race for a 15-49 win.

Patterson’s Devin Burnett (12:24) finished first. Dylan Halland (12:48) and Sean Hicks (12:54) placed second and third, respectively.

Ivan Barbontin (13:15, fifth), Tony Halcon (13:20, sixth) and Carlos Ponce (13:22, seventh) also ran well for the Tigers.

Patterson continues its season at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, when it travels to Ceres’ River Bluff Regional Park for the WAC tournament.
