As Walmart officials prepare to open a future Patterson supercenter early next year, the retail chain is working hard to find new employees, opening a downtown Patterson hiring center on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

The future 158,000-square-foot store at Sperry and Las Palmas avenues will need about 330 associates when it opens sometime early next year, Walmart spokeswoman Delia Garcia announced Monday, Oct. 22. The company's new 3,000-square-foot hiring center stands off North El Circulo at 11 Plaza, Suite B, next to Cheryl Lane’s Cakery.

Walmart is offering both full- and part-time positions, and jobs that are both hourly and salaried, Garcia said. Those include sales, pharmacy, inventory and supervisory positions, she said.

Health care benefits are offered to both full-time and part-time employees. The company also offers matching 401(k) contributions of up to 6 percent of pay, discounts on general merchandise, an associate stock purchase program and company-paid life insurance for eligible employees, according to Walmart officials.

Troy McMahan, an Elk Grove native who most recently served as a shift manager at the Walmart in Wenatchee, Wash., will manage the Patterson store.

“We are excited to bring this Walmart to Patterson,” McMahan stated in a release this week. “The store will bring good jobs with career opportunities to the area.”

Though several applicants already have stopped by the hiring center, Walmart officials have yet to fill most of the positions at the Patterson store, Garcia said.

Associates who are hired will begin work in December and January to help prepare the store for its grand opening next year, according to Walmart officials.

Mike Williams, project superintendent with Newport Beach-based HBI Construction, said earlier this month his company expects to turn over the project to Walmart in early December, and a grand opening could happen in January. However, Garcia only confirmed Monday that the new store would open early next year.

In the meantime, Walmart's hiring center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, where applicants can use computers there to apply online. Interested applicants also can apply online at https://hiringcenter.walmartstores.com. In addition, they can apply at hiring kiosks located at any Walmart store. The company's application process is online only.
