Patterson High athletes finished short of qualifying for the California Interscholastic Federation state meet during the Sac-Joaquin Section championship Saturday, Nov. 10, in Folsom, although one sophomore runner earned individual honors.

Nathan Stanton, a junior at Patterson High, finished in 20th place in the Division III varsity boys race, running the Willow Hills Reservoir three-mile course next to Folsom High in 16 minutes, 49 seconds.

Only the top three varsity teams and no more than five individuals from the section meet qualified for the CIF Cross-Country Championships, which will be Nov. 24 at Woodward Park in Fresno.

At the freshman-sophomore level, sophomore Lupe Ventura navigated the two-mile course in 13:39 and placed second overall among Division III girls.

Patterson’s Devin Burnett, who ran with two of his teammates at Willow Hill, finished the two-mile course in 12:36 and was 22nd overall among Division III sophomore boys. Antonio Venegas was 26th (12:42), and Dylan Halland was 28th (12:48).
