Scouting for Food
WHEN: Beginning at 9 a.m.
WHERE: Scouts will visit area homes
DETAILS: Local Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and American Heritage Girls will pick up donations of nonperishable food from local residents as part of the national Scouting for Food drive. Children will go door to door to ask for donations that will be delivered to the Westside Food Pantry to give to families in need during the holidays. Those who expect to be away from home can leave donated food in bags on the front porch.

Patterson 4-H meeting
WHEN: 6 p.m.
WHERE: Patterson Branch Library meeting room, 46 N. Salado Ave.
DETAILS: Patterson 4-H members will meet for their monthly meeting and are asked to take canned food for the Westside Food Pantry. Each 4-H’er should also take a picture of himself or herself for a Christmas ornament.

Games for teens at library
WHEN: 4 p.m.
WHERE: Patterson Branch Library, 46 N. Salado Ave
DETAILS: Local teenagers, ages 13 to 18, are invited to the library’s monthly Teen Game Night. Participants can practice tactics and teamwork while playing Wii, board and card games. A button-making craft will be offered, and books for young adults will be on display and available for checkout.

Farm water film screening
WHEN: 7 p.m.
WHERE: State Theater, 1307 J St., in Modesto
DETAILS: The screening of a documentary by Juan Carlos Oseguera, a graduate of Orestimba High School in Newman, will be will be followed by a panel discussion. The film, “The Fight for Water: A Farm Worker Struggle,” follows the 2009 march of farm workers across the California’s Central Valley to demand that irrigation water restrictions be overturned.
COST: $6 per person.

Friday, Nov. 30
Eighth-grade day at Catholic high school
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
WHERE: Central Catholic High School, 200 S. Carpenter Road, in Modesto.
DETAILS: Eighth-grade students are invited to a day of activities at Central Catholic High School in Modesto. The teenagers will visit classrooms, participate in a rally, share a pizza lunch, take part in a noontime dance and have a chance to talk with high school students, teachers, coaches and counselors. Those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP.
