Santa Claus and his elves will make a special appearance by fire truck for Patterson’s 87th annual Christmas Downtown Open House.

Santa’s visit will be the main attraction during a “Storybook Christmas” celebration hosted from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 1 by the Patterson-Westley Chamber of Commerce and the city of Patterson, Soroptimist International of Patterson and Helping Our West Side.

A tree-lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. in the South Park> Children’s entertainment begins at 5:15 p.m. Santa will make his entrance during the electric light parade, which winds through downtown at 6 p.m.

The Center Building, which houses Patterson’s historical museum, will be open that evening, as will several downtown businesses. Toys and food will be collected for people in need throughout the area.

Christmas trees decorated by members of local groups and businesses will be on display in the city’s South Park off Plaza Circle. Local Soroptimists will sign up participants until Nov. 19, a Monday. A charge of $25 covers the cost of a tree and delivery. For information: Juanzette Hunter, 892-6651.

Those who wish to march or ride in the electric light parade, hosted by the chamber of commerce, can register until Nov. 23, a Friday. Participation is free. For information: RuthAnn Woodward, Patterson-Westley Chamber of Commerce, 895-8094.

Questions about the downtown open house can also be directed to the chamber at 895-8094 or Emails should include “Parade” or “Christmas Trees” in the subject line. For information:
