California Highway Patrol officer Eric Parsons said Maximiliano Rodriguez of Patterson, was heading west on East Las Palmas Avenue at about 2 a.m. Friday when the black Nissan SUV he was driving veered off the roadway near Chestnut Avenue and struck three palm trees.
Though a CHP report stated that Rodriguez is 18 years old, friends of Rodriguez say he is 16, and his Facebook site indicates he attends Pitman High School in Turlock.
Rodriguez was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto by air ambulance for treatment of major injuries, according to Parsons and friends of the family. He was in serious condition as of Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 14, according to Doctors Medical Center officials.
The reason for the crash is unknown and remains under investigation. Neither alcohol nor drugs were involved, according to CHP officer Jon Peregoy.
