Patterson coach Sara Gomez was pleased with the result.
“It was great to take third place at a very competitive tournament,” Gomez said. “I am very proud of the girls — they showed great potential throughout the weekend. I am really looking forward to a successful season.”
Against Bret Harte, Tiana Barron scored a team-high 12 points, while teammates Aryianna Cashen and Leanna Lindsey each added six for Patterson.
“This was a close game down the stretch,” Gomez said. “Tiana stepped up big for us, Aryianna played great defense and was a true leader on the court, and Leanna helped control the tempo of the game.”
Patterson opened the three-day tournament Thursday, Nov. 29, with a 52-29 victory against Weston Ranch.
Cashen led the way with 19 points and 15 rebounds, Lindsey scored 12 points and Maria Cortez netted 10.
“After the second quarter, we started playing better basketball,” Gomez said. “The girls moved the ball around very well, passing it to open teammates on the floor. We got everyone involved in the win.”
On Friday, Nov. 30, Patterson was defeated by Del Oro High of Loomis 41-15. Barron scored seven points, the most for a Tigers player.
“Del Oro has a great team, very fast, and they put on the full-court pressure,” Gomez said. “I was happy with the heart of our team. We did not give up.”
Patterson will continue the season at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at Grace Davis High in Modesto.
