New Postmaster Margaret Klein has been at work in the local U.S. Postal Service office since the beginning of October. On Friday, Dec. 7, she will officially be installed at the Patterson post office on North Salado Avenue and El Circulo. Klein follows Rick Robles, who was Patterson postmaster from April 2006 to July 2012. She most recently served as postmaster in Tracy from 2008 to 2012, but said she wanted to work in a smaller town. She said she enjoys that local post office employees know customers by name. “I wanted to make a move and go to a small-town environment,” she said. “My management style is one of an open door to customers and employees, and you kind of lose that in a large city environment.” Klein will oversee the local post office’s 23 employees, who handle a daily volume of 35,000 pieces of mail in 8,904 deliveries. Klein started working for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk in Santa Clara in 1988 and the following year became a city carrier in Palo Alto. She started as a mail carrier in Tracy in 2000, then was promoted to a customer service supervisor in Tracy in 2004. Four years later, she became Tracy’s postmaster, serving in that job until October of this year. She lives in Lathrop with two dogs and three cats. Community members are invited to Friday’s installation ceremony, which will take place at the post office at 50 N. Salado Ave. Contact Maddy Houk at 892-6187, ext. 22, or maddy@pattersonirrigator.com.
