A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 21, for Rafael Manzano Alvarez of Newman, who died Monday, Dec. 17.
Mr. Alvarez, 90, was a native of Michoacan, Mexico, and had lived in Newman for 43 years. He worked for E&J Gallo in Livingston. He was a Teamster.
Mr. Alvarez is survived by his wife, Rosalia Alvarez; five sons, Jesus Alvarez of Salinas, Rafael Alvarez, Jr., of Arizona, Francisco Alvarez of Patterson, Javier Alvarez and Juan Alvarez, both of Newman; two daughters, Guadalupe Ramos of Arizona and Maria Anaya of Newman; 41 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be observed from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, at Sacred Heart Church, 529 I St. in Patterson with the recitation of the rosary to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21 at the church. Burial will follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
