Jordan Levu led Patterson with 18 points and 21 rebounds, while three other Tigers -- Skylar Job, Keegan Sanchez and Justin Rodriguez -- added 16, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Sanchez would also hand out a game-high 10 assists for Patterson, while teammate Michael Smith (nine points) registered eight assists.
After leading by five (19-14) to end the first quarter, the Tigers surged ahead in the second, outscoring Excel Academy 24-10 in the period, to increase their lead to 43-24 at halftime.
Levu and Job (3-for-4 on 3-pointers) each scored 12 points after the intermission, and Patterson cruised to a victory.
The Tigers (10-4) will continue tournament play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at Orestimba High, for a chance to play for the tournament title.
Junior varsity
Patterson's JV boys basketball team continued its winning ways, advancing to today's championship game of the Orestimba High Winter Classic, defeating Woodside High, 42-29.
The Tigers used a 15-4 second-quarter run, opening up a 30-16 bulge, to blow open a three-point game after one period on their way to victory.
Gurkirt Heerey led Patterson with a game-high 19 points to go with six rebounds and three assists. Teammate Mylek McDowell had eight points and three assists, while Robert Williams had five points and six boards. Devin Burnett pulled down 11 rebounds for the Tigers.
Patterson will continue tournament play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at Yolo Middle School in Newman, for a chance to play for the tournament title.
