The Tigers were led by Damarrio Hammonds (24 points, four rebounds) and Gurkirt Heerey (eight points, 12 rebounds), both sophomores. Teammate Mylek McDowell, also a sophomore, notched eight points and six steals.
Heerey earned tournament MVP honors, and McDowell earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Patterson garnered a spot in the tournament finale with a 42-29 win over Woodside High on Friday, Dec. 28.
The Tigers used a 15-4 second-quarter run, opening up a 30-16 lead, to blow open what had been a three-point game after one period.
Heerey led Patterson with a game-high 19 points against Woodside and made six rebounds and three assists. McDowell had eight points and three assists, and sophomore Robert Williams recorded five points and six boards. Devin Burnett, also a sophomore, pulled down 11 rebounds.
On Thursday, Dec. 27, Patterson beat Waterford High 63-33. McDowell scored 19 points and made six steals, Williams added 11 points and Heerey scored 10 points and snared five rebounds for the Tigers.
The Patterson team will travel to Livingston High for a game at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4.
Thompson Chevrolet Holiday Classic
Patterson won its third straight Thompson Chevrolet Holiday Classic title with a 74-62 victory over Beyer High of Modesto on Dec. 22 in the Patterson High gymnasium.
Three Tigers scored in double figures, paced by Hammonds, who gave Patterson 22 points and four steals. McDowell finished with 14 points and four steals. Kevin Phelps, a sophomore, contributed 11 points and grabbed 11 boards.
Hammonds and Phelps were selected for the all-tournament team.
Patterson defeated Merced High 58-54 on Dec. 21. Hammonds led the Tigers with 24 points, followed by Phelps with 18 points and 12 boards.
On Dec. 20, Patterson hammered Millennium High of Tracy 64-12. Heerey led the offense with 12 points, sophomore DeOnte West scored 10, Hammonds tallied eight points and sophomore Dylan Halland chipped in five points and eight rebounds.
