School trustees have turned down a hot lunch program for elementary youngsters because of a lack of parent interest.
The Southern Pacific Co. has announced plans to cut local passenger service for Patterson from four to two trains a day. Mail will be hauled by truck rather than train.
High school Principal E.E. Wellemeyer has announced plans to start night exercise classes in the gym two nights a week. One class accommodating local businessmen will offer indoor baseball, volleyball and modified basketball, as well as boxing.
100 years ago — Jan. 2, 1913
A mysterious meeting that attracted about 30 people was held in Edwards Hall last week, its apparent purpose to form an organization of businessmen to oppose Patterson’s Chamber of Commerce. Bowditch Morton did most of the talking, but the only action was a vote not to form the organization.
The Chamber of Commerce favors planting several rows of eucalyptus trees along Salado Creek at the northern edge of town to serve as a windbreak. T.W. Patterson will be asked to donate the property.
Walter Brown has been appointed Patterson’s rural mail carrier, succeeding J.A. Craig, who held the position for several months on an interim basis.
