The city is not the only entity that faces contract challenges with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. The Patterson Joint Unified School District is also reviewing its contract with the department, which is due for renewal. The district currently has one school resource officer who splits his time between Patterson High and Creekside Middle schools, but there are many times he gets pulled by the county for training or other matters, despite our contract language. I would encourage city and school district officials, as well the public, to engage in some problem-solving sessions, as they share similar concerns and frustrations. There is no easy answer to this issue, and Patterson might be stuck for a while, but we need to start somewhere.
