Belmira ‘Bee’ Homen Rose

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 29, for Belmira “Bee” Homen Rose of Patterson, who died on Monday, Jan. 21, at the Bethany Home in Ripon. She was a native of Arcata and was a resident of Patterson for 96 years. She resided in Ripon for the past three years.

Mrs. Rose, 98, was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Isabel Homen, three brothers, one sister, one son and her husband, Ernest P. Rose. Her four children, Daniel and his wife, Lily Rose of Patterson, Barbara and her husband, Harry Shishido of Indio, Ernest and his wife, Catherine Rose of Myrtle Creek, Ore., Norman Rose of Stockton, survive her. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and six great- great-grandchildren.

At the age of 11 months, Mrs. Rose and her family and their dairy cattle moved from Arcata, first by ship to San Francisco and then by rail to Patterson. They eventually settled on Eucalyptus Avenue and the land is still in her family. Her father, Frank Machado Homen passed away on March 4,1920, and her mother, Isabel (Avila) passed away on February 8, 1959. Mrs. Rose met and married Ernest Rose on Sept. 7, 1936.

Mrs. Rose was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Patterson and a member of the Altar Society. She was a member of the PFSA (UPPEC Lodge #82) of Patterson, the SPRSI Lodge #121 of Patterson, Boat Clubs Life Member of M.Y.C. of Modesto and the Lake Yosemite P.B.C. of Merced. She was also a Life Member of the Patterson Historical Society, member of the California Women for Agriculture and a member of Our Lady of Miracles Society in Gustine.

A visitation will be observed from 5 to 7 p.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 529 I St., in Patterson. A second visitation will be observed at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 529 I St., Patterson. Burial will follow at Patterson District Cemetery, 10800 Highway 33, Patterson.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Rose’s name may be sent to Father Connors Endowment Trust Fund, P.O. Box 1174, Patterson, CA 95363.
