Citizens of Patterson, we have all read of Councilwoman Sheree Lustgarten’s past and the incidents of more than 10 years ago. I beg to differ with those who think they know, with any certainty, what the election outcome would have been if the incidents from more than a decade ago had been made public and used as election dirt.
We have seen Patterson elections with past incidents and election dirt tossed around. Those efforts failed.
It may be that the election count would have been different if Lustgarten’s past had been used as election fodder — it just might have gotten her more votes. No one can say what the election count would have been.
When I read the articles about her past, I had to fight back tears. I felt compassion. I felt the strength that is within this woman, strength that she will bring to this council, strength that I don’t know is within me.
This history, if made public before the election, just might have brought in an overwhelming vote count for this courageous lady.
