Local priest heads to Rome

 



The Rev. Paul Locatelli, who grew up in Boulder Creek, is stepping down as president of Santa Clara University to take a position in Rome.



He announced his resignation, effective when a successor is named in the 2008-09 academic year, to promote cooperation among Jesuit educational institutions and research centers around the world.

Jones wins scholarship



Alex Jones of Scotts Valley, a student at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, has won a National Merit special scholarship sponsored by FedEx, where his father works.



Jones was selected on the basis of academic achievement and a high score on the Preliminary SAT. He has been accepted at four University of California campuses and California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Koehring makes Clark University dean’s list



Sara Koehring of Boulder Creek received first honors on the dean’s list at Clark University in Worcester, Mass.



Koehring, a San Lorenzo Valley High School graduate, is studying biology. To make first honors, a student must have a grade-point average of 3.8 or higher, where 4.0 is all A’s.

Perri wins in Gonzaga music competition



Victoria Perri, a Scotts Valley sophomore, has been selected by Gonzaga University in Spokane to sing at a university symphony concert April 28.



Perri, a soprano, will sing the “Bester Jungling” aria from Mozart’s “The Impresario.” She was selected after being a winner in the university’s Young Artists Concerto/Aria Competition.
