Even though no San Lorenzo Valley High team or Scotts Valley High team won a Santa Cruz Athletic League title during the spring sports season, there were many strong performers who shined on the grass and in the gym.
The only individual from area to win an award was Ryan Morano, a Scotts Valley High junior volleyball player. Morano was honored as the Junior of the Year by the league’s coaches and expects a strong Falcon team to emerge during his senior season.
Two teams made the Central Coast Section playoffs.
The Scotts Valley baseball team squeaked in with a strong nonleague schedule and won a first-round game over Capuchino High before falling to top-ranked Santa Cruz.
The Cougars softball team finished second in league and fell one game short of the section finals after a memorable victory over Aptos, a team that came into the game with a single loss on the season.
