San Lorenzo Valley residents who belong to Community Emergency Response Teams will compete in a muster Saturday, June 21, as part of a countywide fair intended to help residents prepare for disasters.
CERTs from throughout the county will pit their firefighting and rescue skills against one another at Dangers in Paradise, a disaster-preparedness fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ramsay Park on Main Street in Watsonville.
CERT members are residents who have completed a 20-hour course that equips them to help their neighbors in the initial period after an earthquake or other major emergency, when first responders are overwhelmed with calls for service.
Residents can sign up for CERT training at the fair. Also available will be information on fire safety. In addition, visitors can experience a simulated earthquake in the “quake cottage” and see other demonstrations.
