The Crows Landing branch of Sanwa Bank was robbed for the second time in two years. The robber entered at gunpoint and made off with an undisclosed amount in an anti-theft bag designed to explode and smear the money with red ink.

Local voters this week approved a substantial tax rate hike for the high school district, supporting the increase 470-266.

Local Ford dealer and Mayor J.S. Fiske is not planning to run for re-election to the City Council.
Dr. F.J. Bradshaw, who has had a medical office in Crows Landing during the past year in association with Patterson’s Dr. E.G. Allen, has moved on to the veterans hospital in Palo Alto. Dr. Frank Schade of Pennsylvania is expected to succeed him.
The French-American Bakery is enlarging its display area. Both the fountain service and the bakery department will be expanded.
100 years ago — Feb. 20, 1913
Beginning immediately, the Evans Telephone Co. is offering 24-hour phone service. Although the office closes daily at 9 p.m., an operator will be on duty through the night hours, owner J.H. Evans has announced.
The Southern Pacific railroad will soon move old, unsightly boxcars parked near the depot, at the request of the Chamber of Commerce.
The Crows Landing Juniors took a 13-7 game from Patterson last Sunday on their home diamond. Patterson still leads the series 5-3.
The new high school district has elected its first slate of trustees. Frank Raines and Ralph Zacharias each had 93 votes, O.S. Lokka 90, Dr. A.M. Field 86 and Cad Ellis 72. Ten names were on the ballot.
E.D. Redman has purchased the Economy Market on Del Puerto from O.M. Welch.
Harness racing is slated this holiday weekend in Newman.
