Henderson, who is vice president of the sorority, worked on the Evening of Wine and Cheese event the past couple of years in conjunction with the Apricot Fiesta. She was honored at a meeting Sunday, Feb. 10 at Damasco Fine Food & Spirits in the Best Western Plus Villa Del Lago Inn. .
Born and raised in San Francisco, Henderson moved to Florida with her father for a year and a half as she began high school. During her Greyhound bus ride back to California, she met a young sailor from Tennessee, Daymond Henderson, who was returning to his ship in San Francisco. They married in April 1959, two months before she graduated from high school.
Following his discharge from the Navy, the couple lived in Illinois and Livermore before settling in Westley in 1987.
Daymond Henderson died of a heart attack in January 2002, leaving his wife with 300 head of cattle, 70 goats, numerous horses and other animals.
These days, Sue Henderson has five horses, numerous feral cats and three dogs, Jet, Hunter and Slugger.
She is a member of the Red Hat Chicks, Friends of the Patterson Library and Soroptimist International of Patterson. She also serves on the Stanislaus County Animal Services Advisory Board and is an Election Day poll worker. She enjoys traveling and has visited Europe and has taken cruises with friend Coleen Sanguinetti.
