“Offensively, we were very indecisive at the plate,” said coach Jennifer Hamm. “We allowed their pitcher to take advantage of us by swinging at pitches that were nowhere near the strike zone. We finally started to pull together in the later innings, but it was too late by then.”
Sophomore Brianna Palafox led the way with a double and two RBIs for Patterson. Junior Sadie Schut went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored, and sophomore Keana Lindsey went 1-for-3 and scored a run.
Sophomore pitcher Lucero Vargas allowed four runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout in 7-1/3 innings.
“Lucero did a great job pitching against Hughson, a team that is the favorite in the Trans Valley League,” Hamm said.
Hamm said she is working on her players’ mental game as much as their physical skills. She feels that team chemistry is improving, which is reflected at practice.
“I’m very proud of the way these girls started off, and I can’t wait for the rest of the season to get under way,” Hamm said.
