Jacob Souza led off the first inning with a triple and scored on an RBI single by teammate Kyle Oden to give the Sierra Timberwolves a 1-0 lead.
But the visitors revved up the damage in the third inning.
After walking Souza, the first batter of the third, Patterson starter Jake Thompson, a junior, induced a comebacker to the mound off the bat of Oden. Thompson’s throw to second base sailed wide of the bag and into center field, however, and both runners advanced into scoring position.
Dakota Conners capitalized on the setup, ripping a two-run single into right field and giving Sierra a 3-0 lead.
Consecutive singles by Joseph Collett and Jake Pruitt loaded the bases for the Timberwolves (2-1).
Marc Wilson picked up an RBI with a single through the left side, and two more base runners crossed home plate on a throwing error, opening up a six-run Sierra lead.
Jonathan Barry and Oden each added a run-scoring hit in the big inning, which concluded with a 9-0 advantage for Sierra.
Sierra loaded the bases and scored again with four straight singles in the top of the fourth. Souza later plated two runs with a base hit to left field, making it 12-0.
Patterson scored its only runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Freshman Antonio Bustos led off the home half of the frame with a double and put Patterson on the scoreboard when he scored on a single by junior Andrew Gomez.
The Tigers scored again on a throwing error that followed an uncaught third strike.
A third runner came home when junior Sal Becerra was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Thompson hit a sacrifice fly to left to score junior Zantino Bustos.
Patterson stranded two runners on base in the bottom of both the fifth and the sixth.
The Tigers continue the nonleague season Thursday, March 7, at Orestimba High in Newman.
