Joel Ayala, past director of Gov. Jerry Brown’s Office of Economic Development, will speak at the Hispanic Business Leadership Forum at the Ceres Community Center on Wednesday, March 20.

Ayala, who became director of the economic development office in April, served for several years as CEO of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce.

He has also headed the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, sat on the California Task Force for Small Business and been selected to join the lieutenant governor’s Economic Development Committee.

Other speakers at Wednesday’s forum — which features a theme of Prosperity For All — include Gabriel Villa from the Latino store and restaurant chain La Perla Tapatia, which has a store in Patterson at El Circulo and South Third Street. Ignacio and Patty Gutierrez from Paleteria La Michoacana, the Modesto-based ice cream and fruit bar manufacturer, also will share their company’s success story.

The half-day forum, hosted by the Alliance Small Business Development Center, El Concilio and the city of Ceres, among other groups, is intended as a venue where attendees can connect with prospective partners.

Attendees will also hear ideas about how to operate their businesses and learn about free resources available in their communities.

Patterson Mayor Luis Molina plans to attend the forum.

“This forum solidifies the economic vitality that exists in Stanislaus County as well as the buying power within the Latino community,” he stated in a release. “This is a great opportunity for small businesses to begin or expand, with needed resources and support.”

Those who stay to the end of the forum can win various prizes, including an iPad, a business advertisement in En Valle magazine and gift certificates from local restaurants.

Wednesday’s event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the community center, 2701 Fourth St., in Ceres.

Registration is required by Monday, March 18, to attend the free luncheon.
