The Ceres pitcher allowed three hits and struck out 12 batters — including five straight in the sixth and seventh innings.
Turpin established control of his pitches early, allowing only one Patterson hit after the first inning.
Even so, the Tigers (1-9 overall, 1-2 Western Athletic Conference) picked up a run in the bottom of the first.
Patterson junior Jake Thompson deposited a one-out, opposite-field double in left field and scored the first run of the game when junior Andrew Basaldua sent a single to right field off Turpin.
The Bulldogs (10-2, 3-0) answered in the second. Senior Brandon Arevalos started with a lead-off double and scored the tying run on a two-out single to left field by sophomore Brent Bussard.
After Patterson went down in order in the bottom of the second, Ceres took its first lead of the game.
Bussard beat out an infield single to open the third and rounded the bases to score on a throwing error, which made it 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, Patterson junior Sal Becerra drew a walk and scooted to second on an error, crossing home plate after another Ceres fielding gaffe and tying the game at 2-2.
Both teams left runners in scoring position in the fifth inning. The visiting offense, however, went back to work in the top of the sixth.
A three-run inning for Ceres benefited from two Patterson errors and was capped by a two-run single by junior Brandon Machado.
Bussard’s two-run double to right center field off Basaldua in the seventh provided the final margin of victory.
Turpin struck out six of the final eight batters he faced before Arevalos recorded the last out of the game.
Patterson continues the league season with a road game at Ceres High at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 28.
Patterson 3, Central Valley 2
The Tuesday defeat followed on the heels of Patterson’s victory at Central Valley High of Ceres on Thursday, March 21.
Against the Central Valley Hawks (8-3, 1-1), Becerra went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and senior pitcher Joey Lopes threw seven innings, scattering eight hits, as the Tigers picked up their first league win of the season.
