A sixth-grader at Walnut Grove School, Juancarlos Navarro, 12, won second place in a sixth- to eighth-grade poster art competition at the 18th annual Cesar Chavez Celebration on March 27 at California State University, Stanislaus, in Turlock.

Juancarlos received a ribbon, a certificate, various CSU Stanislaus items and a Cesar Chavez flag and pin for the poster he made depicting Chavez’ face with colored duct tape.

His poster, ribbon and certificate are on display in the Walnut Grove office, 775 N. Hartley St.

Students from throughout Stanislaus County were invited to submit artwork reflecting the accomplishments and values of the civil rights activist and labor leader.

The March 27 celebration also featured music, information booths and displays.
