Two young Patterson residents, James Hussar and Jaedyn Mattingly, are among the winners of the 2013 Through the Eyes of a Child art contest sponsored by the Stanislaus County Child Abuse Prevention Council.

James won second place in the kindergarten-through third-grade category. He received a certificate and $15 cash. The third-grader, son of Amy and Keith Hussar, attends Sierra Vista Learning Center in Turlock.

Jaedyn, a fifth-grader at Las Palmas Elementary School, earned honorable mention in the fourth-to-sixth-grade category and received a certificate and a Jamba Juice gift card. She is the daughter of Cindi Mattingly and Ray McManus.

Awards were presented April 16 at the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors meeting. All of the winning artwork is on display at 1010 10th St. in Modesto.

The artwork will be reproduced in the 2014 Stanislaus County Child Abuse Prevention calendar and shown at sites throughout the county during the coming year.
