Patterson Police Services deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person on the Patterson High School campus between 8:30 and 9 a.m., according to Sgt. John Walker. Deputy Adam Basmajian, the school resource officer was approached and informed by students of the suspicious person, he said.
Walker said the schools were alerted but not placed on lockdown by deputies, who were on the grounds of the high school within a minute of being told about the man. Administrators held students at the high school for a few minutes in their classrooms between second and third periods, however, while police conducted a search, he said.
Students told deputies that they saw a Latino male in his late teens or early twenties, wearing a red shirt and khaki pants with tattoos on his neck, jump over a fence on the high school campus and quickly walk away. The students told the deputies he had something “bulky” in his pants but that it did not appear to be a weapon or gun.
Walker searched the area around the schools — including a vacant house near the high school — but found no one. Students were allowed to proceed to their classes after a few minutes.
Police do not know who the suspicious man might be or why he was on campus, Walker said.
