A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24 for Helen Joy Melo of Patterson, who died Saturday, May 18 at her residence.

Mrs. Melo, 73, was born in Los Angeles and was a, resident of Patterson for 26 years. She was a teachers' aide for 35 years working for Patterson Unified School District for 18 years and also at Tehachapi and Modesto schools. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Patterson, Altar Society and active in church fund raising.

Mrs. Melo volunteered at the Westside Food Pantry, enjoyed doing water aerobics, exercising at the Aquatic Center in Patterson and traveling with her husband. She was an avid NASCAR fan.

Mrs. Melo is survived by her husband, Manuel Melo of Patterson; sons, Steven Peck and Scott Peck both of Tehachapi, Colby Peck of Bakersfield; stepdaughter, Helen Melo Flowers of Patterson, sisters, Vivian Young of Tehachapi, Marylou Ralley of San Luis Obispo; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be observed from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 followed by a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel, 450 W. Las Palmas Ave., Patterson. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 529 I St., in Patterson. Burial will follow at Patterson District Cemetery, 10800 Highway 33, Patterson..
