Patterson Police deputies responded to a call of a suspicious package on the grounds of the former Patterson Vegetable Co. plant at E and First Streets just before 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, according to Patterson Police Sgt. Paul Yotsuya.

The package — later identified as a backpack — sat underneath the water tower at the southern edge of the former main plant.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was deployed to investigate the contents of the backpack and determined the contents to be someone’s homework and cell phone cards. The contents posed no threat, according to Patterson Police Chief Tori Hughes.
