Amazon.com’s future Patterson fulfillment center will likely open for business this fall, just in time for the holiday shopping season, city officials announced this week.

As construction work continues on the 1 million-square-foot site at Park Center Drive off of Sperry Avenue, hiring appears to be ongoing, with 20 positions at the future Patterson facility listed on the online retailers website.

At the same time, the exact opening date and the total number of future hires remains unknown.

Company officials indicated in the past that they planned to open their fulfillment center this summer, but a city of Patterson advertisement appearing in a Patterson Irrigator guide for the Apricot Fiesta released today indicates it will open in September.

City Manager Rod Butler clarified this week that the Amazon officials indicated two to three months ago that the facility would be open in September or October in time for the holiday shopping season.

It’s still unclear how many people will work at the warehousing operation. A release from Gov. Brown’s Office of Business and Economic Development stated in October that the Patterson center would employ 350 people, but Amazon.com officials have only revealed that the fulfillment center will hire “hundreds” of employees.

Company officials did not return calls requesting comment.

Jobs posted online for the Patterson facility are varied, including human resources and information technology positions, a robotics maintenance technician, a loss prevention manager and a medic. The bulk of the center’s warehousing positions have yet to be posted.

Butler said he expected that the company would host some type of job fair. He anticipated the Stanislaus Economic Development and Workforce Alliance, which aims to recruit businesses to the county and to retain and assist those that are here, will likely be involved in those recruiting efforts.

“Keep your eyes on the Alliance website,” he said.
