Dan Ranger Jr. of Vallejo has been spending time in Patterson researching the history of the old Patterson & Western Railroad Co., which ran a line to a magnesite mine far up Del Puerto Canyon back in the days of World War I. This week, he wrote what is planned to be a series of articles about the narrow-gauge railroad.
For the past two years, the Parents’ Club has given away a television set at its spring carnival. Ivan Stewart has won the set both times.
Several local men are working as equipment operators on construction of the new San Luis dam. They are Gil Simpson, Johnny Hoeppen, Don Wigle, Herb Signorotti and Vernon Maurer.

The Methodist Church congregation this week gave approval for construction of a building. A suitable lot is being sought.
The Chamber of Commerce is protesting San Francisco’s Hetch-Hetchy water proposal. The chamber also appointed a committee to investigate a rumor that a road from San Jose to Modesto might be aligned through Patterson.
The Patterson concert band may give Saturday night concerts again this summer, but is lacking a bandstand. Last year, the band played on a downtown street corner.
The Home and School Association is promoting community pride. A committee has been appointed to plan a Patterson clean-up day.
