A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, June 14 for Wendol Leland Torrison of Patterson, who died on Friday, June 7 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.
Mr. Torrison, 87, was born in Modesto and was a lifetime resident of Patterson. He was a farmer for 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a combat veteran and served in the Occupation of Japan until he was discharged. After World War II, Mr. Torrison, along with his father and cousin, constructed the first self-propelled pea and bean harvester. Then they constructed their own fleet and started their own harvesting business and ran it until the mid-1970s. He continued farming until his retirement in the mid-1990s and his sons took over the business.
Mr. Torrison was an avid skier and enjoyed sailing and photography. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 168 of Patterson. The family of Wendol Torrison would like to give a special thank you to Jody and Cindy for all their assistance during the past several years.
Mr. Torrison is survived by his sons, Mark Torrison and his wife, Melinda of Yuba City, Eric Torrison and his wife, Elizabeth of Gustine and Karl Torrison and his wife, Miriam of Patterson and his grandchildren, Darien, Dane, Kordel, Kori, Kasen and Jenna.
A visitation will be observed from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at Hillview Funeral Chapel, 450 W. Las Palmas Ave., in Patterson. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 14 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 650 W. Las Palmas Ave., Patterson. Burial will follow at Patterson District Cemetery, 10800 Highway 33, Patterson.
