The Modesto Garden Club awarded eight $1,500 scholarships in June to applicants who reside or attend school for horticulture-related subjects in Stanislaus County.

Winner Jessica Sheetz of Patterson has been awarded one of the scholarships for the second year in a row. She is completing her studies in public horticulture and plant protection at Modesto Junior College. Sheetz plans to become a certified arborist.

The Modesto Garden Club raises money for scholarships at various fundraisers, including the annual Garden Club Tour.

The Modesto Garden Club was founded in 1924 and has more than 500 members who contribute to beautification projects, therapeutic gardening and children’s gardening activities. The club’s first community project was landscaping the newly built Modesto Junior College campus on College Avenue.
