EDITOR,

I am a lifetime resident of Patterson, born here over a half century ago, and I don’t intend on moving. In 1981, I was filled with hope regarding my future; not concerned with the city I grew up in. Thirty-two years later, I see adults and the youth who have lost hope. I know, for I was one of those adults, but not anymore. God knows there are others who believe our community can improve, as I do. The mayor, chief of police and church pastors, along with the public and private groups — including addiction recovery programs and human resource centers — all have the right idea for their specific area of expertise.

What I would like to add is how do we get all the different personalities, from all the different groups, to team together as one for the benefit of the whole? By helping those in need.

A hand out is from the government; a hand up is from a friend, and the hand of God cannot even be comprehended, much less expressed by man. We need all 3, and we need them now.

I regret that I will be unable to help my little town during 2013, since my own house is not in order. Until then, I will do the only thing I can think of to help: pray.
