Mark Kuhn of Hillview Funeral Chapel was presented with a the Honorary Membership Award from the California Funeral Directors Annual Convention and Banquet in San Francisco on June 25.

The award is given only to persons of distinction who have given outstanding service to California’s funeral service profession. Only three others have been recognized with this highest honor in the over 100-year-old association.

Kuhn was acknowledged by his peers for his outstanding contribution to California Funeral Directors Association, Funeral Directors Service Corp., which oversees the $70 million dollar California Master Trust, and to California’s Funeral Directors by helping to achieve the highest of professional standards.

Kuhn was recognized for being a role model and is recognized for his diplomacy, planning, organization, management and decision-making. Through his hard work as a C.F.D.A. and F.D.S.C. committee volunteer, committee chairperson, board member, officer and president of both associations, he leads with honesty and integrity, with one thing in mind: to do what is best for funeral service ethics and the families they serve. He co-authored the Cal O.S.H.A. manual for funeral service that helped to set standards and develop and share best practices.

Kuhn, who owns Hillview Funeral Chapels in Patterson, Newman and Gustine, has received numerous awards throughout his career, including Young Funeral Director of the Year in 1989 and Outstanding Funeral Director of the Year in 1993, and again in 2003.
