  • WHAT: Patterson Joint Unified School District board of trustees meeting

  • WHEN: 7 p.m. Monday

  • WHERE: Apricot Valley Elementary School, 1320 Henley Parkway

The Patterson Joint Unified School District board will consider laying off 23 employees from the district’s classified staff at a meeting Monday.

Classified staff consists of those who perform jobs such as yard duty and groundskeeping — basically anyone who is not a teacher or in management.

The possible layoffs, which are being proposed by district staff, come in the wake of the state cutting the amount of funds it gives to each school. The board has already announced 10 teachers will be laid off and that Rising Sun Elementary, which serves about 40 students, will be closed.

    On the chopping block

Below are the positions school district staff is recommending be laid off. Some people would have the option to remain at reduced hours, should the board approve the recommendations:

Two groundskeepers, two attendance clerks, two food-service workers, two media technicians, two computer cab aids, four paraeducators, one preschool aid, one attendance monitor, one campus supervisor, one coordinator of operations and facilities, one maintenance engineer, one maintenance worker, one media technician, one night custodian and one school clerk.
