The Ravens varsity youth football team showed signs of hope and some improvement despite a 40-18 loss to the Modesto Patriots on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Riverbank Sports Complex.

While the Ravens fell to 0-2 in Trans-Valley Youth Football League play, the outcome was not the focal point of the team's coaching staff.

"We grew and we worked together as a team," said assistant coach Rick Azevedo. "We had some boys do some things really well. I think that we are about to hit our stride."

Joseph McGarry added an 11-yard touchdown run for the Ravens (2-0), and Miguel Alvarez tacked on a 60-yard TD scamper.

The Ravens' defense, meanwhile, came up with a goal line stand to end the only Patriots scoring threat of the game.
