The Ravens junior varsity youth football team scored eight touchdowns, including three from back Joseph McGarry, to build an insurmountable lead that propelled the squad to a 52-30 win over the Tracy Panthers on Saturday, Aug. 31, at Patterson Community Stadium.

“Defensively, we struggled in the first half, giving up 24 points,” said Patterson coach Joe Powers. “But we made the adjustments in personnel, and gave up just one score in the second half.”

McGarry rushed for 230 yards and had touchdown runs of 22, 23 and 40 yards to help lead the Ravens (3-0) to victory. Teammate Miguel Alvarez tallied more than 100 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown, while adding a 53-yard TD strike to teammate Jack Grisell.

“The offensive line did a great job, and our offense had no problem scoring on the Tracy defense,” Powers said.

Not to be outdone, Xavier Williams ran for 55 yards and two touchdowns, and Zachary Rodriguez crossed the goal line following a six-yard carry for the Ravens.

On defense, Noah Mirelez recorded an interception for the home team.

The novice Ravens’ offense showed Saturday, Aug. 31 the damage it can do when it runs well. The hometown squad ran wild in a 40-0 victory against the Tracy Panthers at Patterson Community Stadium.

Credit must be shared with the Ravens’ high-powered offense and the array of weapons at their disposal, coach James Perez said.

“That was as good an effort on the football field as I’ve seen in years,” Perez said. “The kids came out and gave a good performance. They showed up ready at practice all week, and that’s how you get the job done.”

Anthony Barrera, Tanner Davies, Andrew Freitas, Caleb Henry, Javier Huizar and Isaiah Patterson had rushing TDs for the Ravens (3-0).

Defensively, the Ravens completely dominated the visitors, holding Tracy to -70 yards of offense, en route to a third-straight win.

“Our defense was stout, and didn't allow much of anything,” Perez said. “We moved Tracy back on every drive.”
